Boring is good?

bor·ing

adj.
Uninteresting and tiresome; dull.

bor′ing·ly adv.
bor′ing·ness n.
Synonyms: boringmonotonoustediousirksometiresome
These adjectives refer to what is so lacking in interest as to cause mental weariness. Something that is
boring fails to hold one's interest or attention, often resulting in listlessness or impatience: had never
read such a boring book.

This is probably not the most intriguing way to start a blog entry after a year absence. As I age I wonder to myself "have I become boring?" Or is my life just more calm now; is it just devoid of drama?

I go to bed really early now. If I don't have 9 solid hours of sleep I am a beast the following day. My life is fairly stable at the moment (aside from money woes and with me there will always be stress about money). I have a decent job, I have a loving boyfriend and yet I suffer from a nagging whisper in my head that I have become boring. Have I "given up"? I mean, am I no longer able to challenge myself in new and interesting ways? Or is my "boring" existence a result of nostalgia for all of my past travels and years of living on another continent, in a foreign country? Is this feeling just a long-winded bout of restlessness as I'm ignoring my creative needs?

And does boring equate stability? Am I confusing the two?

I don't believe in resolutions and yet I somehow have come up with a list of 12 things I want to try. They are simple goals and I cannot foresee if any of them will become habit, but in order to make myself "do" something, I want to give these a try. At first, I thought of all sorts of rules to complete the following items, like doing 1 a month or having them evenly spaced or doing them in order. But then I thought the more rules I enforce the less likely I'll be to complete them. The only rule I will stick with is that I want to complete all of them within the year. The list below may be the most pathetic, small-minded bucket list you've ever seen- but for this project against procrastination I want to start small.
Do you have any resolutions? Any new experiences you want to pursue this year? Please share and feel free to add in any other ideas you may have.

*Eat fish
I haven't eaten fish since I was 21 and I used to love it, but it started to give me an upset stomach (mild allergy?) but I want to try again, I will do this one on a Friday so if stomach pain does persist I have all weekend to get over it.
*Live in a dirty house for 48 hours- fight the urge to clean
I do have an obsessive cleaning condition and sweep at least twice a day and cannot tolerate "things" out of place, whether this is due to an actual condition or the fact I live in a very small apartment, it definitely consumes a lot of my time.
*Go for a run
I don't run, I like walking, but I'd like to try to run to see what it feels like.
*Learn cribbage
This will require a partner but I think I can find one.
*Dance 1 full slow song
I haven't danced to a slow song in forever and I want to-this one should be easy to complete.
*Get bangs
As my old coworkers would say "fringe". I need a hairstyle change as we are close to a decade with this mop. Bangs worked well for me in the past, and they grow fast is they turn out hideous this time.
*Finish a non-fiction personal essay
I attempted this before and finished a piece but it's not to my liking, need to practice and do another one
*Make delicious, flaky, buttery croissants
I added in all the adjectives because I'm sure I could bake a croissant, but the goal here is to make really good ones.
*Put together a photo album, of all of my best nature photographs.
I'm not a fantastic photographer but every now and then I take a really good photo, after a decade of hiking and exploring our provincial parks I have a few now and would like them properly printed.
*Write once a day
This is the hardest one, the writing can include journal writing, free writing, blogging, letter writing. Keeping it open will increase my chances of success. And yay! I already completed this today
*Learn to knit slippers
I love slippers. I love boring slippers. I do. I can knit and have been knitting scarves for decades, but that's all I know how to do. I will learn how to knit slippers.
Hmmm, that's only 11 things. Thought I had 12. Anyone want to add a challenge? Or feel free to make suggestions about the ones I have listed.
Happy 2015
